Andrea S. Kramer, Alton B. Harris
Authors, Speakers, Lawyers
Believe that by learning to use distinctive, practical, effective communication techniques, women can overcome gender bias.
ANDREA S. KRAMER, JD, is an attorney and a partner in the international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery, LLP. Because mentorship opportunities for young executive and professional women are often limited, she co-founded the Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Alliance (WLMA) to recruit senior women to mentor and support younger women on their way up. Alongside her distinguished legal career, Andie is a nationally recognized advocate for women’s advancement and an authority on gender communication.
Alton Harris was a founding partner of the Chicago law firm of Ungaretti & Harris which in 2015 merged into the national law firm of Nixon Peabody LLP. Over the course of his career, Al has grown increasingly concerned about the barriers and biases women face in traditionally male career environments. His focus is always on the communication skills they need to advance in their chosen fields, despite the prevalence of negative gender stereotypes.

James Adams
Vice President, MOSAIC Investment Co., Author Waffle Street
Do what’s right, even when it’s hard.
JAMES ADAMS cut his teeth in the investment management industry as an analyst at Protective Life Insurance Co., where he assisted in the credit evaluation and relative value analysis of an $8 billion corporate bond portfolio. After three years at Protective, Jimmy joined Jefferson-Pilot Financial, trading and monitoring the credit quality of a $3 billion corporate bond portfolio comprised of 120 issuers. He was also instrumental in Jefferson-Pilot’s inaugural issue of $300 million funding agreement-backed notes in June 2005. In early 2006, Jimmy entered the placid waters of the mortgage bond market, where borrowers were known to repay their debts and fraud was a total anomaly. As a vice president in the product management group of a $30 billion money management firm, he serviced 40 client relationships by providing verbal and written commentary on performance, investment process, and portfolio positioning. After three harrowing years in the mortgage market maelstrom, Jimmy sought refuge inside the walls of a 24-hour waffle diner. Waiting tables on the weekend graveyard shift over the next six months, he got a lot more than he bargained for. Although he earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and an MBA in Finance, most of the author’s financial knowledge has been gleaned from his recent foray into food service and the writings of forgotten 19th-century economists.

Debra Oakland
Courage Advocate
Overcoming Life’s Biggest Challenges
The extreme loss Debra experienced in a short period of time was life altering, and illuminated a path forward that she never saw coming. Instead of retreating from life, she was called to open myself up, and create a blueprint for increasing joy and abundance. She started to write, not only as a way to share experiences, but also to show through example that COURAGE and JOY can truly set you free, no matter the circumstances.
Her work since that point has been to share her own story of strength. Showing people that in the midst of immense tragedy, there are silver linings. She found gratitude, and dedicated myself to helping others to make these brave choices as well. You have your own path to fearlessness, and she’s here to be of assistance. By sharing experiences in and around courage, we have the opportunity to make a powerful difference in each others lives.
